P-SHOT™ (Priapus Shot®) for Men’s Sexual Health

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatments are commonly used for a variety of conditions, including Men’s Sexual Health conditions such as erectile dysfunction, and a desire to have harder, firmer, and larger erections. The process involves harvesting blood from the individual, then isolating and concentrating its plasma portion into platelet-rich plasma (PRP). The objective is to create PRP that is regenerative with a platelet concentration > 1,000,000/microliter. At Hogue Clinics, PRP is tested using a hematology analyzer to calculate the platelet concentration within the blood and within the PRP. At Hogue Clinics, the P-SHOT (Priapus Shot®) is performed using a blood draw of 240ccs to isolate and concentrate PRP. This represents 4 to 8 times more harvested blood than most other clinicians harvest when performing the P-SHOT (Priapus Shot®).

PRP, when concentrated to platelet regenerative levels, contains numerous bioactive agents including cytokines, growth factors, proteins, and peptides that improve vascularity and erectile potential. PRP stimulates the body’s natural regenerative responses of tissue repair and cellular regeneration.

What Conditions Can Be Treated Using Platelet-Rich Plasma Replacement Therapy?

There are multiple conditions where PRP treatments can be used, including:

  • Orthopedic Conditions: PRP can be used to treat injured or painful tendons, ligaments, joints, bones, muscles, rotator cuffs, labrum tears, and torn knee meniscus.
  • Hair Conditions: PRP can be effective for hair regeneration for people suffering from hair loss, thinning hair, genetic pattern baldness, or hair miniaturization.
  • Skin Conditions: PRP can help improve the overall appearance of skin. It also can help expedite wound healing through skin regeneration.
  • Men’s Sexual Dysfunction Conditions: Men struggling with sexual dysfunctions, such as erectile dysfunction can benefit from PRP treatments.
  • Men’s Sexual Enhancement: PRP regenerative medicine treatment options for sexual enhancement include increased penile girth, enhanced orgasms and sexual pleasure, and firmer, enlarged erection potential.

How Is PRP Administered to the Body?

Once PRP has been created, it is injected directly into the body in the desired location. For instance, for men struggling with sexual dysfunction, the PRP is injected directly into the cavernosum soft tissue locations on each side of the penis. The platelet-rich plasma helps regenerate cells and promote new tissue growth and enhanced blood supply to help resolve erectile issues and other sexual dysfunctions.

What Are Some PRP Benefits for Men Having PRP Treatments?

When PRP treatments are used to treat sexual dysfunction condition and to provide male enhancement, the benefits provided can include:

  • Improved blood flow to the penis.
  • Firmer, stronger erections that are easier to achieve and maintain.
  • Improved sexual stamina and performance.
  • Resolution of or a noticeable improvement in penile curvature issues.
  • Resolution of or a noticeable decrease in painful erections.
  • A noticeable increase in penile girth and length.
  • An increase in sensitivity in the penis, which heightens sexual pleasure.
  • Stronger orgasms

Are Trimix Injections the Same as PRP treatments?

Trimix injections are a prescription medication used for men who have severe erectile dysfunction. They create a temporary pharmacological-induced erection following a shot into the penis cavernosum, which constitutes a temporary solution to the problem. The primary drawback to Trimix is that it can only be used a maximum of three times a week and it carries the risk of causing priapism, which is an acute medical risk that requires emergency intervention if the erection lasts longer than four hours.

With PRP treatments, the long-term objective is to stimulate the body to naturally repair genital tissues and to regenerate cells and tissue to overcome the erectile dysfunction without the use of prescription medications. Over time, instead of relying on medications to achieve erections, you will be able to naturally achieve them, thanks to platelet-rich plasma replacement therapy.

How Do PRP Treatments Work to Fix Men’s Sexual Issues?

Since there is a regenerative level of platelets within PRP concentrated plasma—which is full of proteins and growth factors, it helps to activate dormant stem cells and other regenerative cells within the penis. Once activated, these regenerative cells promote healthy regeneration and repair of damaged tissues and cells. In addition, PRP helps improve the development of new blood vessels and collagen production to further promote healing.

How Is PRP Obtained for Injections?

During an office visit, the required amount of blood needed for a single PRP treatment is drawn from the patient. The blood is then processed using a centrifuge that spins the blood at a very high speed. This process helps separate the platelet-rich plasma from the rest of the blood. Once separated from the blood, the PRP is removed and deployed same day for treatment.

How Many Platelet-Rich Plasma Replacement Therapy Injections Are Needed?

The number of injections required depends on each individual and their exact diagnosis. As such, it will vary from one patient to the next. For instance, one patient may need weekly PRP treatments, while another may only require treatments every other week. Your doctor will review your current medical condition, overall health and well-being, and male sexual issues to determine the frequency of treatment that would be best for you.

How Long Does It Take to Get PRP Treatments?

A PRP treatment typically takes about 90-minutes to complete.

Do I Need Someone to Go with Me to Drive After PRP Treatments?

You will be able to drive yourself after your PRP treatment. This is an added benefit for men who are concerned about confidentiality and not wanting to make others aware of their Men’s Sexual Health condition.

We recommend going home after the first treatment, rather than returning to work. This allows you to know how you will feel afterwards and to gauge if you feel good enough to return to work post-treatment.

Besides the Injections, Are There Other Therapies I Need to Do?

It will depend on the condition you are treating with PRP injections. If you are treating erectile dysfunction issues, then we may have other treatment options in addition to the PRISM P-SHOT™ (Priapus Shot® with PRP) to consider, such as the PRISM X-SHOT™ (MSC Exosomes), and PRISM M-SHOT™ (Penis Fat Grafting).

How Long Do Successful Results Last?

On average, successful results can last about a year before considering having another PRISM P-SHOT™ (Priapus Shot®) PRP treatment to boost and prolong the PRP benefits.

How Soon Can I Have Sex After PRP Treatments?

We recommend you wait at least 3 days after your P-SHOT™ (Priapus Shot®) PRP treatment before engaging in sexual activity to allow the needle punctures to heal up so as to avoid infection, bleeding and bruising. After 3 days, you can usually resume sexual relations without experiencing any problems.

Are There Any Serious or Adverse Side Effects of PRP Treatments?

Since you are being treated with platelet-rich plasma from your own blood, the risks of serious side effects and adverse events are rare and almost non-existent. Some patients can experience bruising, minor bleeding, and swelling in the location where the blood was drawn and the PRP injections were administered into the penis. It is critically important to avoid aspirin, NSAIDS and blood thinners for at least seven (7) days prior to a PRP treatment. In rare cases, an infection could occur.

How Long Does It Take Before Improvements are Noticed following a PRP Treatment?

The amount of time before improvements are noticed following a PRP treatment can and does vary from individual to individual. Usually, improvements are noticed within a few weeks, depending on the extent of the underlying condition and one’s innate ability to regenerate. Your physician will discuss these issues with you. Follow up visits with your physician may be recommended or scheduled to gauge your recovery process and response.
